Lehmann - Hommage 72 Ultralight

The Hommage 72 Ultralight is the largest glass in L'Hédoniste, and Lehmann recommends it for red wine. The bowl is 111 mm wide and holds 72 cl, so the wine spreads out wide and gets plenty of air. Towards the top the bowl narrows markedly, so the aromas gather beneath the rim.

The glass stands 239 mm tall. The bowl is rounded and widest below its middle, and sits on a long, thin stem with a broad, flat foot. The Ultralight process, which Lehmann spent two years developing, produces particularly fine and light glass. The rim is thin and cold-cut, and the glass carries the Lehmann signature.

The L'Hédoniste collection

Lehmann created L'Hédoniste together with Gérard Basset, whom the house calls the World's Best Sommelier. The line is part of the Signature collection. Lehmann describes its shapes as slender and understated, and quotes Basset: in tasting, every detail counts. The Hommage glasses in this line range from 38 to 72 cl. If you pour white as well, the Hommage 69 Ultralight is the glass Lehmann recommends for white wine and rosé. For red wine in a taller, slimmer glass, there is the Hommage 60 Ultralight.

Care

The glass is dishwasher safe, preferably on a glassware programme. Washing by hand in hot water without detergent gives the finest result. Dry with a microfibre cloth and never twist the foot and the bowl in opposite directions, or the stem will snap.

About Lehmann

Lehmann is a house from Reims, in the heart of Champagne, specialising in wine and champagne glasses. Its collections are conceived and designed in Reims, the Signature lines in collaboration with sommeliers and chefs. The glass itself is made by selected glassworks within the European Union, and all its tasting glasses are made of cristallin, lead-free crystal. On the machine-blown lines the rim is cold-cut. According to Lehmann, this produces a strong glass that stands up to daily use and still comes close to the finesse of mouth-blown crystal.
