Champagne tasting at your venue

A champagne masterclass at your own table

Jim comes to you with four to eight champagnes from small, independent growers. You taste them side by side and hear exactly what is in your glass. By the end you genuinely know something about champagne, and it never once felt like a lesson. At home, at the office or in your own business.

What to expect

Champagne you will not find in the supermarket

Almost everyone knows champagne from a single brand. One bottle, one taste, always the same. And then someone tastes a Blanc de Noirs for the first time, made by a grower who grows his own grapes, and the penny drops.

That is what a tasting with us is about. Four to eight wines side by side, all of them from small houses in Champagne, in an order that is going somewhere: first the region, then the three grapes, then how the wine is made, and finally what a few years of rest does to a bottle. You taste the difference between chardonnay and pinot meunier, between a fresh brut and a cuvée that has spent a long time ageing on the lees. It is a masterclass, only one where most of the evening is spent laughing.

I am Jim. I select these wines myself, I know the makers personally and in July 2026 I earned the title Master of Champagne. There are around 450 of us worldwide. So ask me anything you want to know about champagne, including the questions you think are silly.

How it goes

This is how a tasting works at your home

You do not have to prepare anything apart from a table everyone can sit around. We bring the rest.

30 minutes before

I arrive and set up

I am at your door in good time, bring the bottles down to temperature and set out the glasses. All you have to do is clear a table.

As you come in

The opener

You get a glass in your hand straight away. While you taste, I explain briefly how champagne is made and why one bottle tastes so different from the next. Not a lecture, just an explanation in between the drinking.

The main part

Wine by wine

I pour 50 to 70 ml of each champagne, depending on how many wines are on the table that evening. You hear about the house, the grape, the region and what to expect in your glass. Questions are welcome at any point, that is what makes it enjoyable.

Towards the end

Everything side by side

By the end the glasses stand side by side on the table. Only then do you taste how big the differences really are, and notice that you can now name them yourself.

Afterwards

Talking it over and taking it home

I clear everything away while you carry on talking. Whatever is left in the bottles I leave with the host. If you want to take a bottle home or order more later, we sort that out on the spot.

Talk through the options
The finest moment of a tasting is the end, when champagne is no longer just something festive or something for the aperitif, but so much more than that.

Why us

What makes a tasting with Selected by Dronk different

Four things that set this evening apart from an ordinary tasting.

A Master of Champagne at your table

Jim earned the title Master of Champagne in July 2026. There are around 450 of them worldwide. So you are at the table with someone who knows the makers personally.

Only champagne from small houses

We do not sell the big brands. Everything comes from independent growers who grow their own grapes and make their own wine. You will not find those bottles in the supermarket, and you can taste it.

From the right glass

We pour from Lehmann crystal champagne glasses, designed in Reims. The glass decides a large part of what you smell and taste. We would rather let you experience that yourself than explain it.

A guest discount on what you liked

For two weeks afterwards, every guest gets a guest discount on the champagnes that were on the table. That way you take the evening home with you.

Frequently asked questions

The questions you probably have

Is your question not here? Feel free to call or message 06 81 65 14 70, or put it in the form above.

So is this a tasting or a masterclass?

Both. There is a real build to it, from region to grape to how the wine is made, and you go home with knowledge you will use next time you are in a shop. It just feels along the way like an evening with friends rather than a lesson. You can ask questions at any time, including the ones you think are silly.

How many people does a tasting need?

From 8 people. There is a practical reason for that: we open a whole bottle of every champagne, so below 8 guests the bill per person becomes needlessly high. If your group is smaller, we charge the rate for 8 people and the tasting simply goes ahead. For larger groups we open a second bottle of each wine, so that everyone gets the same measure.

Where can the tasting take place?

Anywhere there is a table. At your home, at the office, in a meeting room, at a club or in a hired hall. We bring glasses, ice buckets, spittoons and water, so you do not need to have anything ready there.

What exactly is included in the price?

All the champagnes, the crystal glasses, the ice buckets and spittoons, Jim hosting the evening, and the setting up and clearing away. The price is per person and includes VAT. Only travel costs beyond 30 km from Rotterdam are added, and those are always stated in the quote in advance.

Do we get something to eat as well?

No, we come with champagne and glasses. Putting out some bread, cheese or oysters yourself is of course always fine and works very well. If you want a tasting with a full menu alongside it, we arrange that together with a restaurant. Mention it in your request and we will look into it.

How much champagne do you actually drink?

That depends on the package. With four champagnes I pour about 70 ml of each wine, with eight about 50 ml. Either way you end up at around 300 to 400 ml, roughly half a bottle per person. There are spittoons and water on the table. You decide for yourself how much you drink and how much you spit out, which is entirely normal at a tasting.

Is it still fun if you know nothing about champagne?

Especially then. Plenty of our guests have never tasted champagne attentively before. No prior knowledge is needed and there are no wrong answers. Anyone who already knows a great deal will find plenty here too, because you rarely come across these houses.

Can we choose the champagnes ourselves?

Jim puts the selection together, because the build from light to full is what makes or breaks a tasting. If you have a preference, mostly Blanc de Blancs for instance, or rosé, or an older vintage in the line-up, put it in your request. We will take it into account.

How far in advance should I book?

Three weeks ahead is comfortable, because then we have the most room in the diary and can still bring in special bottles in time. At shorter notice it often works out as well. Just ask, and we will see what is possible.

Can we order bottles afterwards?

Yes. For two weeks afterwards, every guest gets a 10% guest discount on the champagnes you tasted that evening. You receive the code by email, together with an overview of what was on the table.

Can we book this as a business, with an invoice?

Yes. Choose business in the form and give the company name. You receive an invoice with the VAT specified separately. For staff outings and client days we are happy to put together a proposal for a larger group as well.

Can a tasting be given as a gift?

Certainly. We make a personalised gift voucher, with which the recipient picks a date themselves. Mention it in your request and we will send the voucher digitally or on paper.

What if we have to reschedule or cancel?

Up to 7 days before the agreed date you can reschedule or cancel free of charge. After that we charge for the champagnes we set aside specially for you, because by then they have been bought in and chilled. Everything else that applies is set out in our terms and conditions.

Does everyone have to be 18 years or older?

Yes. We serve no alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 and ask for valid proof of identity if we have doubts. Younger guests are welcome at the table, but they are not served champagne.
