The winemaker
Champagne La Villesenière is an independent grower based in Boursault, on the left bank of the Vallée de la Marne, and represents the prestige project of the Michez family. This winegrowing family has produced under its own name since 1973 and has been active as a récoltant-manipulant since 2010. In 2015 they joined the Vignerons Indépendants. The current generation, Laurence and Cyrille, focuses on terroir expression, artisanal craftsmanship and a minimal-intervention approach.
From the estate

Where the grapes grow

Craftsmanship & philosophy
La Villesenière has been certified organic since 2022 (AB0097.V1) and works entirely without synthetic insecticides. Grass growth in the vineyard is actively encouraged to promote biodiversity and soil life. Vinification is entirely artisanal, with 100% alcoholic fermentation and ageing in oak barrels (without the use of steel or concrete), using exclusively the first pressing (tête de cuvée).
Style & highlights
The style is geared towards pure terroir expression, with minimal dosage and a clear role for wood. All champagnes are selected parcel by parcel and come from a single harvest year (though not labelled as a millésime). The choice of exclusive barrel vinification and the emphasis on the first pressing result in profound, gastronomic wines with structure and depth. The style fits seamlessly into the discourse of the new generation of vignerons in Champagne: champagnes with character, craftsmanship and a pronounced sense of origin.
