A closer look at the glass
What makes this glass different
Each number on the photo matches a point in the list.

-
Narrower towards the rim
The bowl narrows again towards the rim. According to Lehmann, a narrower top like this concentrates the wine's aromas.
-
66 cl wine glass
Lehmann classifies the Dionysos 66 as a red wine glass; its online shop also lists it for white and rosé wine. It holds 66 cl.
-
Ultralight, machine-blown
The Dionysos 66 is machine-blown using Lehmann's Ultralight technique. According to Lehmann, this technique makes the glass fine and light.
-
V-shaped lower bowl
At the bottom, the bowl runs down to the stem in a V shape. In general terms, Lehmann says that the lower part of a bowl promotes smooth, controlled swirling.
-
5 mm Ultralight stem
In its Ultralight brochure, Lehmann specifies a 5 mm stem for machine-blown Ultralight glass, which includes the Dionysos 66, compared with 6 mm for standard machine-blown glass. According to Lehmann, such glass is also 30% lighter than standard machine-blown glass.
-
Machine-blown and cold-cut
Lehmann says of its machine-blown glasses that the blowing process and the cold cutting make them strong and durable, and that they approach the fineness of mouth-blown glass.
-
Cristallin, lead-free crystal
The glass is made of Cristallin, crystal without lead. Lehmann cites brilliance, clarity and resonance as characteristics of this material.
-
Five stars for fineness
On the product page, Lehmann gives the Dionysos 66 five out of five stars for fineness, and four out of five for lightness, resonance and transparency.
-
0.7 mm Ultralight rim
In its Ultralight brochure, Lehmann specifies a 0.7 mm rim for machine-blown Ultralight glass, which includes the Dionysos 66. According to Lehmann, standard machine-blown glass has a 1 mm rim.
Productinformatie
The Dionysos 66 Ultralight is a wine glass from L'Intense, the Signature collection Lehmann created with sommelier Fabrice Sommier. Lehmann intends it for red wine, and in its own online shop also lists it among its glasses for white wine and rosé. The bowl holds 66 cl and measures 106 mm at its widest point. That point sits low in the bowl, giving the wine a generous surface area to open up. Above it, the sides draw in markedly towards the rim, so the aromas stay in the glass.
The shape is clean and angular. At the bottom the bowl runs down to the stem in a V-shape, at its widest point it turns at a softened angle, and from there straight sides slope up to the rim. The long, thin stem stands on a round, flat foot. The glass is machine-blown using the Ultralight process, which Lehmann spent two years developing to make glass that is both very fine and light. Lehmann names its qualities as finesse, lightness, resonance and transparency. Each glass bears the Lehmann signature.

The L'Intense collection
Fabrice Sommier is a sommelier and Meilleur Ouvrier de France. To him, wine is a blend of culture and encounters with people. Together with him, Lehmann created L'Intense, and Lehmann describes the curves of this line as pure and precise, meant to bring out the aromatic nobility of the Grands Crus with subtlety. From the same line we also stock the Ariane 72 Ultralight, likewise machine-blown using the Ultralight process and intended for red wine. At 240 mm it is slightly shorter than the Dionysos, and at 114 mm noticeably wider. For white wine and rosé there is the 47 cl Vénus, and for champagne and still wine from the same glass, the universal Bacchus 55 and the slimmer Hera 39.
Care
The glass is dishwasher safe, preferably on a glassware programme. Washing by hand in hot water without detergent gives the finest result. Dry with a microfibre cloth and never twist the foot and the bowl in opposite directions, or the stem will snap.
About Lehmann
Lehmann is a house from Reims, in the heart of Champagne, specialising in wine and champagne glasses. Its collections are conceived and designed in Reims, the Signature lines in collaboration with sommeliers and chefs. The glass itself is made by selected glassworks within the European Union, and all its tasting glasses are made of cristallin, lead-free crystal. On the machine-blown lines the rim is cold-cut. According to Lehmann, this produces a strong glass that stands up to daily use and still comes close to the finesse of mouth-blown crystal.
