    Op een steenworp afstand van Reims, in het dorp Courmas, maakt Simon Rion al sinds 2007 champagne op zijn eigen manier. Vierde generatie, ruim twee hectare, en een aanpak die alles draait om de bodem: mechanisch bewerkt, zonder kunstmest, met respect voor de oude stokken die zijn vader en opa hebben aangeplant.

    Courmas is geen plek waar je een Blanc de Blancs verwacht, en juist daarom is deze fles zo interessant. Simon laat hier zien wat Chardonnay doet op klei en kalk in de Petite Montagne. Dit is de 2022, een zonniger jaar dan de 2021: voller en guller, en volgens Simon zelf het jaar dat hij voor deze cuvée het liefst heeft.
