Glass guide

Which champagne glass suits your moment?

Three iconic shapes, three ways to experience the bubbles. What they share: aroma above all.

Flute. Slim and tall

For the celebration

The classic flute: slim, tall and elegant. Shows the bubbles at their best and is iconic for a toast.

  • Sparkling mousse on show
  • Iconic for toasting
  • Ideal for reception and celebration

Italesse Privé Flûte, Balloon Flûte, Lehmann Excellence 21

Tulip. The connoisseur

For the tasting

A wider bowl than a flute, narrower than a white wine glass. Gives the aromas room to unfold, the choice of sommeliers.

  • Maximum aroma experience
  • For vintage and grand cru champagnes
  • Sommelier favourite

Lehmann Synergie 52, Synergie 60 Handmade, Italesse Masterclass

Universal. Wine style

For dinner

A bowl with a white wine glass shape for the full-bodied champagnes: Blanc de Noirs, aged vintages, prestige cuvées. If you serve them at dinner, this is the glass.

  • For mature and complex champagnes
  • With fine dining
  • Pairs with white wine

Material & Craftsmanship

What your glass is made of

Three production methods, three types of glass. What is the difference?

Lead-free crystal

Modern crystal has the clarity of traditional lead crystal, but without the lead. Safer, dishwasher-safe and just as elegant.

Mouth-blown

Each glass individually mouth-blown by a glassblower: Italesse Leggerissimi and the Lehmann premium series. Ultra-thin rim, subtle differences in shape, unmistakable craftsmanship.

Machine-blown

The Italesse Xtreme series is machine-made for extra break resistance. Dishwasher-safe, sturdy and perfect for everyday use.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

What is the difference between a flute, tulip and coupe?

The flute is narrow and tall and shows the bubbles at their best. The tulip is a wider glass that tapers towards the top and gives the aromas more room, a sommelier favourite. The coupe is wide and flat: historically elegant, but the bubbles disappear more quickly.

Which champagne glass do you recommend for everyday use?

For most occasions a tulip shape is the best choice. The Italesse Etoilé Sparkle or Lehmann Synergie 60 are all-rounders that show the bubbles beautifully while letting the aromas develop. For pure festivity, choose the classic Privé Flûte.

Why are champagne glasses narrower than wine glasses?

Two reasons. First, the narrow shape concentrates the bubbles and creates a beautiful rising stream. Second, it reduces the surface area through which the carbonation escapes, so the mousse is preserved longer. For modern, aged champagnes a wider glass is sometimes chosen, more in a wine style.

What is a Blanc de Blancs or Grand Cru champagne?

Blanc de Blancs literally means "white from whites": a champagne made exclusively from white grapes (Chardonnay). Grand Cru is the highest classification: only 17 of the 319 wine villages in Champagne may carry that status. Both are premium categories that call for a good tulip.

Can champagne glasses go in the dishwasher?

Most of the glasses we sell are dishwasher-safe: the Italesse Leggerissimi and Xtreme series and the Lehmann Selection. We recommend hand-washing mouth-blown glasses to extend their lifespan.

How many champagne glasses do I need per person?

For a toast or reception, 1 glass per person is enough. For dinners where champagne is served both as an aperitif and with the main course: count on 2 glasses per person. A set of six is enough for most households.
