Glass guide

Which bowl size suits your wine?

Red wine needs space. The wide bowl lets the wine breathe and brings out the complex aromas.

60 to 70 cl. Pinot style

Light wine

Bourgogne-style bowl: rounded, tapering to a tulip. The round base lets fragile aromas develop, the narrow rim guides them towards the nose.

  • Pinot Noir and Bourgogne
  • Beaujolais Cru
  • Lighter Italian wines

Lehmann Hommage 69, Italesse T-Made 75 Leggerissimi

75 to 90 cl. Bordeaux style

Full-bodied wine

Bordeaux bowl: taller and narrower than Burgundy, ideal for wines with firm tannins. Directs the wine to the middle of the tongue.

  • Bordeaux & Cabernet
  • Full-bodied Tuscan wines
  • Aged Rioja

Italesse Etoilé Noir, T-Made 75

90+ cl. Amarone style

Powerful wine

Extra-large bowl for the most powerful wines. Provides plenty of oxygen to settle high alcohol levels and complex tannins.

  • Amarone della Valpolicella
  • Barolo & Barbaresco
  • Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Material & Craftsmanship

What your glass is made of

Three production methods, three types of glass. What is the difference?

Lead-free crystal

Modern crystal has the clarity of traditional lead crystal, but without the lead. Safer, dishwasher-safe and just as elegant.

Mouth-blown

Each glass individually mouth-blown by a glassblower: Italesse Leggerissimi and the Lehmann premium series. Ultra-thin rim, subtle differences in shape, unmistakable craftsmanship.

Machine-blown

The Italesse Xtreme series is machine-made for extra break resistance. Dishwasher-safe, sturdy and perfect for everyday use.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

What's the difference between a Bordeaux and a Burgundy glass?

The Bordeaux glass is tall and relatively narrow, ideal for wines with firm tannins (Cabernet, Merlot). The Burgundy glass is bowl-shaped with a rounded base and a tapered rim, perfect for Pinot Noir and other delicate wines where aroma takes centre stage.

What size glass is ideal for wine?

For light wines (Pinot Noir, Beaujolais) we recommend 60-70cl. For full-bodied wines (Bordeaux, Tuscan style) 75-90cl is ideal. For powerful wines like Amarone and Barolo we go to 90cl or more: they need extra oxygen to come into their own.

Why are red wine glasses bigger than white wine glasses?

Red wine needs more room to breathe. The oxygen softens the tannins and lets the complex aromas shine. White wine is usually drunk cooler and younger, so a smaller bowl that keeps the wine cool does the job.

Do I need a separate bowl for Amarone or Barolo?

For the real enthusiasts: yes. Wines like Amarone, Barolo and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are high in alcohol (often 14.5-16%) with powerful tannins. A large 90+ cl bowl (such as the Italesse Masterclass 90 Xtreme) gives the wine the room it deserves. For occasional use, a large Bordeaux bowl works perfectly well too.

Are wine glasses dishwasher safe?

Most of the glasses we sell are dishwasher safe: the Italesse Leggerissimi and Xtreme ranges. We recommend washing mouth-blown bowls by hand to extend their lifespan. Every product page states whether the glass is dishwasher safe.

How many wine glasses do I need per person?

For a dinner at home, 1 red wine glass per person is enough. Do you often host dinners with several wines (a light red with the starter, a full-bodied one with the main course)? Then invest in two different bowls, for example a Burgundy shape for Pinot Noir and a Bordeaux shape for Cabernet or Merlot.

What if my glass arrives damaged?

Then we'll replace it right away. Send us a photo by email or WhatsApp and we'll send a new one free of charge. Our glass-breakage guarantee applies to all orders.
